Dear Welder Series… 60″ Mustang II Questions

Dear Welder Series…
I’m wondering about the MII crossmember you sell. It says the 60″ width is the one to get for a 77 F100. When the crossmember is wider does that push the mounting points for the control arms out too? If so I assume you can get extensions for the steering rack to keep the geometry correct? Also, I’m looking @ doing an air ride suspension. What modifications need to be made for that?

Thanks, Charlie

Dear Charlie…
Yes, Charlie, the 58″ and 60″ kits do move the control arm pivot points out. The rack mounting points stay the same as stock. Many of the companies selling Mustang II racks also have rack extension kits for the wider crossmembers. The threads on MII racks are not all the same so it’s a good idea to either check the thread on your rack before ordering the extension kit or to order the rack and extension kit at the same time from the same supplier.

If you plan to use ShockWaves, order the coil-over kit. Grant Schwartz did a nice installation with pics at http://www.schwartzwelding.com/gallery/trucks/05.html. Scroll down about 1/3 of the way to see the way he tweaked the brackets.

If you will use conventional double convoluted air springs, order the kit for stock MII springs. The air spring company will have adapters for the upper towers.

Thanks for looking at Welder Series parts.
